Description of Coursework Modules
1. The Drug Discovery Module will introduce students to the process of discovering and purifying novel therapeutic drugs. Students will be introduced to the basics of drug discovery, from identification of a novel trait found in an indigenous organism (i.e., green fluorescence in E. coli), to the basic science of understanding how to express and isolate the gene product for testing.
2. The Clinical Research Module will introduce students to concepts relevant to step three of the FDA drug development process. Discussions, case studies, and other assignments will expose students to basic principles associated with design of clinical trials, interpretation of results from statistical analyses, and ethics related to use of human participants in clinical research.
